Welcome to Sculpture!

Welcome to this course! I am very glad to have you in my class and look forward to getting to know you over the course of this semester. In this class we will build on your skills from Beginning Visual Arts, incorporating a wider range of materials, processes and subject matter. I do expect you to be invested in your work, coming to class always prepared, ready to work, and most importantly excited to make art!

Course Explanation and Goals

Intermediate Sculpture is a second level of art in North Carolina high schools. This course will build on the skills learned in Visual Arts I, emphasizing the study of the elements of art, the principles of design, color theory, vocabulary, creative problem solving, materials application, and NC Standards for this level.

  1. Use the language of visual arts to communicate effectively.

  2. Apply creative and critical thinking skills to artistic expression.

  3. Create art using a variety of tools, media, and processes safely and appropriately. 

  4. Understand the global, historical, societal, and cultural contexts of the visual arts.

  5. Understand the interdisciplinary connections and life applications of the visual arts.

  6. Use critical analysis to generate responses to a variety of prompts.
